Is there an uninstaller for this package? How about a method of building the package for DIY geeks? It would be nice just to have some instructions to follow to build the binary from source myself and package it up.

OK i tested your package on a friends MAC what a pain to edit the conf file on a MAC. They do not even exist in GUI, and why is there no root or sudo on mac terminal really had to mess with stuff on buddies MAC to get root privileges. Finally got things to work by running this command sudo passwd root hope it works on the clients machine!

Seems like the Bacula daemon is working but it is hard to tell is there an icon or a way to monitor it?? some kind of status command? how do i test if it is working i can telnet on local host to 9102 so i figure bacula must be working right?

Tried “launchctl start org.bacula.bacula-fd” like you suggested but it told me application not found or some such error. Then i rebooted the mac now i can telnet to 9201 like stated earlier in this email and it works.

However i am having trouble connecting to the fd from the remote dir and stat client times out. MAC firewall is not on and i have the MAC book DMZ through the router not sure why i cannot get to it.

ps this was on a mac book pro Intel something or other

Replying to a post to bacula-users, I thought I’d include my response here for everyones benefit:

The bacula-fd that is packaged at my site (pixelchaos.net) is controlled by the LaunchDaemon/LaunchAgent system in Mac OS X.

Basically, it is auto started on boot up (the proper scripts are installed by the .pkg installer). To manually start it you can issue “launchctl start org.bacula.bacula-fd”. Stopping it should be self explanatory.

Be aware also that the latest 2.2.7 packages are only tested on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 for both Intel and PowerPC. Older versions of Mac OS X may not work because of library linking.

The daemon itself is located at /usr/local/sbin/bacula-fd and the
configuration file is at /usr/local/etc/bacula-fd.conf

Is there any readme, howto etc. for the this specific client ? I know how to configure the fd conf-file, but how does the monitoring work etc. ?

Problems have been fixed with the Intel version of the installer. If you get info on the .pkg file after decompressing, it will show it’s version number as 2.2.7-1

There appears to be an issue with these installers on Intel based Mac’s running Mac OS X 10.4.

Its not clear at this point what the exact problem is but the bacula file daemon simply crashes when you try to launch it.

I’ll post more information when I have it.
