bacula-2.0.3-4 Etch Backport

For a lot of (good) reasons, I run Debian Stable (etch) on all my servers. For various other reasons, I need to run a newer version of bacula than what is included in the etch tree (1.38.11).

With that in mind, I have backported bacula-2.0.3-4 from Debian Testing (lenny) and set up an apt repository for anyone else who needs it.

To use the repository, add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://backports.millbrookprinting.com/ etch main contrib non-free
deb-src http://backports.millbrookprinting.com/ etch main contrib non-free

Be aware that I offer no guarantee on the packages I backport. Also keep in mind that this repository is for etch i386, amd64, all, and source. No other branches or architectures are included at this time. If there is enough demand, I may include others.

    Hi!

i386 debs not present in your repository. Normal?

  2. jcl says:

Stephane: Looks like I accidentally removed the i386 packages at some point. I only have one machine of that architecture so I didn’t notice. It’s now fixed.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    Hi jd,

I like to use your backport for bacula on a etch system.
But as I give it a try I will get a huge list of packages which get updated too. Thats not what I liked.
Is there anything special I need to take care ?
Especially the libc6 seems to be a problem with the version.

    Ingo,

The bacula packages are the only thing currently available in my backports repository. Are you sure you dont have sources for lenny listed in your sources.list?

For libc6 and bacula-fd specifically, the version in my repository requires libc6 (>= 2.3.5-1). Etch has libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13 currently.

I’m guessing that your system is trying to upgrade itself to lenny according to how your sources.list is set up?

    jd,

    you are absolutelly right.
There was an additional line in my sources.list which didn’t say etch.

    Now it worked fine.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
Bacula 2.2.5 is out, many bugs were closed and this release looks very interesting…
bacula 2.2.5-1 debs are available for sid.
We run your bacula version on etch servers and would like to continue :) Are you planning to backport bacula 2.2.4 or 2.2.5?

    Keep on the good job!

    19,

Yes. I actually began work on this a few days ago. There are some significant issues to deal with concerning dependencies, etc.

I will post a new blog entry when the backport is ready.

Thanks for your interest (and your patience)
